Europe Needs Women Scientists

Europe Needs Women Scientists
Europe needs the ideas, perspectives and talents of women scientists to shape research and innovation for the future. Promoting equal opportunities in science and research is therefore a key priority for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim is to strengthen equal participation by women in higher education, research, teaching and academic leadership positions, and to increase their visibility in national and international research networks.

Greater Participation
A particular focus is placed on increasing the participation of women scientists in European research and innovation programmes. The EU Framework Programme Horizon Europe offers researchers a wide range of opportunities to establish international collaborations, implement excellent research projects and build long-term networks. For many years, North Rhine-Westphalia has supported its universities and research institutions in successfully making use of these opportunities and securing European funding.

Support Services
This focus topic provides information on support services for women scientists in North Rhine-Westphalia and Europe, successful routes to participation in Horizon Europe, and opportunities for international networking. It covers topics such as career development, the acquisition of third-party funding, project coordination and the establishment of European research collaborations. In addition, successful examples from North Rhine-Westphalia are presented, along with ways in which women scientists can position their research activities more strongly at European level.

Information and Networking Opportunities
We also highlight relevant information and networking opportunities. These include, in particular, the NRW.Europa project with its Horizon NRW information platform and regular information and brokerage events, as well as specialist events on European research funding. These formats offer women scientists the opportunity to find partners for international projects, learn about current calls for proposals and expand their participation in European programmes.
